Private Cardiac Ultrasound (Transthoracic Echocardiogram)

A transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) is a painless test that uses ultrasound to visualize the heart in real time. It allows physicians to evaluate the heart valves, pumping function, and overall structure of the heart. At the Clinique de Cardiologie Lanaudière, you can obtain a quick appointment, and a clear report is sent promptly to your healthcare provider.

What is the test used for?

Your physician may request a cardiac ultrasound to investigate symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, or swelling (edema), or to monitor a known condition such as a heart murmur, valvular disease, or cardiomyopathy. The exam can help confirm a diagnosis and guide an appropriate treatment plan.

How does the echocardiogram work?

The exam usually takes about 30 minutes. You will lie on your back and/or on your side. A gel is applied to the chest, and a probe is moved across different areas to capture images of the heart. Echocardiography does not use X-rays and is completely painless.

Preparation

No special preparation is required. Wear a shirt that is easy to remove. If your doctor provided a referral, please bring it with you.

Results and timeline

The images are analyzed by a cardiologist. A report is sent to your healthcare provider within approximately 48–72 business hours. If follow-up is needed, we will guide you toward the appropriate next steps.
